A member of the Neighbourhood Watch reports a recent scam attempt purported to be from his broadband provider, Plusnet. The caller stated that our Members broadband had been compromised and that the service would be terminated in 24 hours unless action was taken. That action was to press “1” immediately. Our Member indeed took immediate action, To Hang Up, and then contacted Plusnet support. Plusnet confirmed the scam and advised that the call should be registered as a scam call and blocked. The action for Plusnet customers and BT (who own Plusnet) is to dial 1572 to register that number to a Personal Black List to block subsequent calls on that line. There are likely similar numbers and procedures to be followed with your particular broadband supplier and something that we recommend.
