ALERT: 07/11/2019. Amazon Prime Account Scam Phonecall.
A member of Sutton cum Lound Neighbourhood Watch reports taking a telephone call today on their land line ostensibly from Amazon Prime Accounts. The caller told our member that her Prime Account had been compromised, the callers pitch was as follows: “This is Amazon Prime, your account has compromised with an amount of £999. I beg you to Press “1” quickly”.
At that our member hung up. A subsequent check of the members Prime Account and credit card proved that no such activity had taken place.
Our member is a frequent user of Amazon Prime and has taken deliveries this current week. Amazon do not have the members home phone number, the contact number used by the member is a mobile phone number. You are advised to terminate any call from Amazon Prime Accounts whether on mobile (as you might expect) or landline, without engagement with the caller, do not Press “1” or follow any other request.
Check/access your accounts on a secure computer/device that has an up to date anti virus checker on it if you receive such a call. Preferably a different device to the one you received the call from.
As we get closer to Christmas we might expect more of these types of call, so be wary of such calls.
