During July 2024 the Team have undertaken 2 Speedwatch sessions, 1 on Sutton Lane, 1 on Mattersey Road. We recorded 34 vehicles speeding at 35 mph or more and noted one such driver at 60 mph on Sutton Lane. All speeding vehicles were reported to the Police who are empowered to take further action.
We have now stood 61 Speedwatch sessions since March 2023, recorded 10,346 vehicles travelling through our zones of which 831 were exceeding 35 mph. We have recorded a number of vehicles that repeatedly exceed the limit (35 mph) 75 vehicles , 3 drivers recording 5 incidents, 1 driver 4 incidents and 7 drivers 3 incidents. We believe that the police will be following up on the repeat offenders.
Expressing the number of speeding vehicles against the number of vehicles moving through each zone we have identified two hotspots, Mattersey Road where 14% of vehicles exceed 35 mph and Sutton Lane 10% of vehicles exceed 35mph, the percentages for Town Street and Station Road are 1.5% and 1.0% respectively.
We were advised that the Police would be conducting their own road side enforcement on Sutton’s roads and we elected to stand down our operations from mid month so as not to queer their pitch. We hope to be given some idea of how successful that operation has been.
The results of the Speedwatch’s undertaken to date are shown in the attached result table and graphically in the histogram. The histogram plots the number of speeding occurences, in each 3 mph band, against location. The 3 mph bandwidth chosen to facilitate analysis.
