During June 2024 the Team have undertaken 4 Speedwatch sessions, 2 on Sutton Lane, 1 on Mattersey Road and 1 on Town Street. We recorded 77 vehicles speeding at 35 mph or more and noted one such driver at 68 mph on Sutton Lane. The latter having entered our zone at 68 mph heading south was likely speeding as it made its way through the village. All speeding vehicles were reported to the Police who are empowered to take further action.
We have now stood 59 Speedwatch sessions since March 2023, recorded 10,031 vehicles travelling through our zones of which 795 were exceeding 35 mph. We have recorded a number of vehicles that repeatedly exceed the limit (35 mph), 2 drivers recording 5 incidents, 2 drivers 4 incidents and 6 drivers 3 incidents.
During the month we have exchanged correspondence with the Office of the Police & Crime Commissioner and Inspector Crawford, District Commander for Bassetlaw and Inspector Allen of the Nottinghamshire Police Force representing Nottinghamshire Safety Camera Partnership. All have made positive responses to the issues we have raised with them. In particular we are looking to receive feedback from the local Force based on the Speedwatch log sheets that we submit (identifying those speeding vehicles). We hope to be advised of the action that the Force is taking, contacting, where appropriate, drivers of those speeding vehicles by letter or visit.
Inspector Allen and Inspector Crawford are to consider how the Safety Camera Parnership, the latter are involved in the deployment of the Mobile Speed Camera Vans, might increase their coverage in Sutton. We might expect to see them on Sutton Lane and now also Mattersey Road, the two hot spots identified from Speedwatch sessions. Ideally in the long term the Speedwatch Team are of the opinion that fixed camera systems will be necessary to fix the problem.
The results of the Speedwatch’s undertaken to date are shown in the attached result table and graphically in the histogram. The histogram plots the number of speeding occurences, in each 3 mph band, against location. The 3 mph bandwidth chosen to facilitate analysis.
