Certainly not ideal weather to be standing around on a road side but our well laid plans for the week were cancelled due to adverse weather and at short notice we put in a session on Mattersey Road on Wednesday 8th March.
We gunned the traffic entering the village heading south as shown on “Speedwatch Locations”. Our session lasted from 17.00 until 17.55, curtailed a little due to failing light.
We gunned 57 vehicles and recorded 13 of those travelling at speeds in excess of 35 mph (30 mph limit in village). Of note we recorded vehicles travelling at 53, 52, 51, 50, 49, 48, 48, 44 mph. Thus some 23% of vehicles were exceeding 35mph on the day, a significant proportion.
The findings will be reported to the police. Our liaison officer PCSO John Dale visited the team during the session having come from risk assessing another village with a view to running a Speedwatch there.
We hope to pull in another couple of locations next week, Sutton Lane and Station Road weather permitting. Thanks to the kind lady of Mattersey Road who offered us hot drinks and encouragement.
