It seems that EDF are also keen to recover PFA from settling ponds/lagoons on site at West Burton. EDF applied to Nottinghamshire County Council (NCC) in March 2020 for permission to lift the PFA and the comprehensive Method Statement they provided to NCC is attached here. One imagines that the process of recovery is ongoing as the stock at West Burton was initially around 2.4 million tonnes and the expected lift of 400,000 tonnes per annum will last until 2025. There are two streams of PFA recovery and preparation for customers. Some material is extracted dry from hoppers containing PFA, presumably collected directly from the Precipitator hoppers. This dry material is conditioned (water is added) to 15% for dust suppression purposes. The material from the ash lagoons is screened as some agglomeration takes place whilst in the lagoons. The screened PFA is then transported, as is, containing the moisture/water from stock without any drying. (inherently conditioned) The conditioned PFA from both streams is then transported by HGV to customers.
